Rhizoctonia rot of carrot

Daucus carota L.

A complex of carrot diseases caused by the fungi Rhizoctonia solani, Rhizoctonia crocorum, and Fibularhizoctonia carotae, leading to root rot in the field and during storage.

In the reference 4 varieties crop Carrot, where this is mentioned in the description.

Three main forms of infection are distinguished on carrots: violet root rot (Rhizoctonia crocorum), manifesting as a dense purple mycelial mat; crater rot (Fibularhizoctonia carotae), characterized by sunken lesions with a whitish coating; and classic rhizoctoniosis (Rhizoctonia solani), which causes necrosis, ulcers, and seedling blight.

The pathogen Rhizoctonia solani is represented on carrots by a number of anastomosis groups, among which the most virulent and frequently occurring are AG 3 and AG 5, as well as groups AG 1-IB, AG 11, AG-E, AG BI, AG-K, and AG 4-HGII. Genetic markers or specific resistance genes to these pathogens in carrots have not been described to date; therefore, breeding is primarily conducted by selecting accessions with field resistance to the complex of rots.
