A soil-borne disease of radish caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani, manifesting as seedling damping-off, hypocotyl rot, and root rot.

The primary causal agent of the disease is the soil-borne fungus Rhizoctonia solani, the sexual stage of which is known as Thanatephorus cucumeris. Pathogenic isolates of the fungus affecting the crop are classified by anastomosis groups; in particular, the activity of AG-1 group isolates is noted.

The disease manifests as 'black leg', leading to mass seedling death, as well as hypocotyl and root rot. Under high humidity conditions, aerial parts of the plant may be affected, which is expressed as the development of leaf spotting.
