The optimal phase for harvesting triticale haylage and silage is the period before heading, which ensures the best nutritional indices. Unlike other cereals, the crop maintains mass quality for longer without becoming coarse up to the milk stage of grain development, and it exhibits high regrowth capacity, allowing for multiple cuts per season.

Haylage harvesting technology requires the use of wide swathing to accelerate biomass drying to a target moisture content of 65–70%. The high content of digestible protein in triticale green mass makes it a valuable feed component, especially when grown in vetch-triticale mixtures, which provide superior daily livestock weight gains compared to pure silage.
