Inflorescence of Eucomis L’Hér.

A typical Eucomis inflorescence consists of small star-shaped flowers densely arranged on the peduncle. Its characteristic morphological feature is the presence of a 'coma' (tuft) at the apex, which gives the plant a superficial resemblance to a pineapple.

The parameters of the inflorescence depend directly on cultivation conditions and the quality of the planting material. The length of the inflorescence is usually 30–45 cm, with a total peduncle height ranging from 20 cm to 1 meter. Large bulbs with a diameter of 18 cm or more promote the formation of well-developed inflorescences, whereas failure to maintain proper temperature conditions during bulb storage leads to the development of small, loose racemes.

When evaluating the quality of the inflorescences, factors such as floral density, color intensity of the bracts, peduncle strength, and the overall duration of the ornamental period, which can last for several weeks, are taken into account.
