Gerbera Inflorescence

Gerbera L.

The gerbera inflorescence is a capitulum consisting of peripheral ray florets and central disc florets. It is the primary ornamental organ evaluated by diameter, degree of doubling, petal shape, and productivity per plant.

The diameter of the gerbera inflorescence varies from 4 to 15 cm, with forms having a diameter of 10–13 cm considered large-flowered. Gerbera breeding takes into account the heritability of inflorescence size and floret density, as well as the essential requirement for a strong peduncle capable of supporting the weight of the capitulum.
