Unlike the annual Eruca sativa, Diplotaxis tenuifolia possesses a high regenerative capacity, allowing for multiple harvests within a single season. Growth after cutting is ensured by the activity of adventitious buds located on the roots.
To ensure multiple harvests from the plantings, it is necessary to maintain a cutting height of 3–5 cm above the soil level. Damage to the vegetative growth point leads to a cessation of development. Furthermore, increasing the cutting height to 6 cm may reduce overall marketable yield, but has a positive effect on reducing nitrate accumulation in the leaf mass.
In a number of climatic conditions, including the Moscow region, due to the plants' tendency for early bolting, the practical application of multiple cuttings may be limited, which is why a single harvest of the crop is sometimes recommended.
