The suitability of Vanda for cut flowers is determined by the waxy texture of the petals, which allows them to maintain their marketable appearance for up to two weeks. The crop is sensitive to ethylene and requires temperature control and specific pre-sale hydration.

As cut flowers, orchids of the genus Vanda retain their decorative quality for 7 to 14 days. An important physiological characteristic is their sensitivity to ethylene, which induces premature senescence of the flowers. Upon partial loss of turgor, inflorescences are capable of regaining firmness after overnight immersion in water.

Technological preparation includes mandatory two-hour hydration of flower stems before storage. Due to its epiphytic growth habit and the "heavy" texture of the petals, Vanda requires a temperature range of 16–25 °C; at lower values, dry or translucent spots form on the perianth, which reduce product quality.
