Variety traits

Gerbera yield

Gerbera L.

Gerbera productivity in protected cultivation is measured by the number of marketable flower stalks per square meter of usable area per year or growing season.

In the reference 26 varieties crop Gerbera, where this is mentioned in the description.

In commercial floriculture, yield is recorded by daily counting of cut flower stalks that meet quality standards regarding stem length, flower size, and pollen condition. Flower readiness for harvesting is determined by the appearance of a characteristic yellow pollen ring, as early harvesting reduces market value and the vase life of the plant.

Crop productivity is directly dependent on planting density, which is usually 15–20 plants per m², and the choice of substrate, such as mineral wool or coconut fiber. Since Gerbera is a short-day crop, its flowering is characterized by seasonal fluctuations: productivity peaks of up to 15–17% of the annual volume occur in the spring period, while in August the indicators may drop to 0.5%.

Yield serves as a key economic indicator of farm profitability during a two-year cultivation cycle. A decline in performance indicates violations of agrotechnical practices, including failure to maintain the temperature range of 18–24°C, insufficient lighting, or malfunctions in the fertigation system.
