Yield of American plum

Prunus americana Marsh. is characterized by high productivity, with average yields per mature tree reaching 100–150 lbs. An important factor determining the formation of flowers and fruit is the degree of light exposure: trees growing in open, sunny sites show better results than plants in partial shade.

Given that the crop is often propagated by seed, there is significant variability in productivity between individual trees. The species is prone to forming dense thickets; however, to maintain stable fruit production, the use of agrotechnical practices, including regular pruning and soil mulching, is recommended.
