Spinach Yield

Spinacia oleracea L.

Spinach yield is a key economic trait reflecting the mass of marketable leaf rosettes. Its metrics critically depend on the cultivar's resistance to premature bolting, irrigation regime, and the intensity of agricultural practices.

In the reference 72 varieties crop Spinach, where this is mentioned in the description.

When evaluating spinach yield, the mass of marketable leaf rosettes at the stage of commercial maturity is taken into account. In open-field conditions, yields typically range from 20–30 t/ha, whereas under high-tech greenhouse and hydroponic conditions, productivity can reach 3–6 kg/m². In field variety trials, values vary in the range of 10–17 t/ha depending on the climatic zone.

A key factor limiting yield is the premature bolting of plants under long daylight hours and high temperatures. Due to a poorly developed root system, the crop is highly demanding regarding soil moisture and agronomic management. Optimization of the seeding rate, reaching 800,000 – 1.1 million units/ha, and the use of large-fraction seeds allow for a significant increase in marketable mass output.
