Yield in wine grapes

Vitis vinifera L. subsp. vinifera

An index of productivity for wine grape varieties that determines the balance between crop weight and the quality of winemaking raw materials. It is measured in tonnes or centners per hectare, hectolitres of wine per hectare, or kilograms per vine.

In the reference 3 varieties crop Wine grape, where this is mentioned in the description.

For wine grape varieties, yield is a key agrobiological parameter that determines the potential quality of the wine. It is composed of the number of shoots, the percentage of fruitfulness, and the average weight of the clusters, which are assessed through the analysis of dormant buds and primordial inflorescences. Permissible values vary significantly: from strictly limited figures in premium winemaking to concentrate flavour and aromatic compounds, to high levels in intensive cultivation technologies.

Yield regulation is carried out through the adjustment of shoot and cluster load during pruning and green operations. Excessive overloading of the vine leads to poor berry ripening, reduced sugar accumulation, and delayed maturation, which is critical for climatic zones with a short growing season. At the same time, the plant has the ability to partially self-regulate, independently adjusting the weight and number of berries in the event of an excessive number of shoots.
