Variety traits
Solanum lycopersicum L.
Biological characteristic of a tomato cultivar defining the time from emergence or transplanting to fruit ripening, used for cultivar classification and crop planning.
In the reference 358 varieties crop Tomato, where this is mentioned in the description.
In tomato agronomy, the growing season is calculated in two ways: from full emergence to fruit ripening or from the moment of transplanting to a permanent site until the start of harvest. Cultivars are classified into groups: ultra-early (up to 85–90 days), early-maturing (90–100 days), mid-early (100–115 days), mid-season (110–120 days), and late-maturing (from 120 days).
The duration of the tomato growing season is not strictly fixed and depends on climatic conditions, including temperature, light intensity, and moisture availability. With a deficit of heat or light, the development period can increase by 2–3 times, which must be considered when choosing a cultivar for regions with short summers or greenhouse conditions.
