Germination Capacity — Soft Wheat

Triticum aestivum L.

An indicator of the sowing quality of soft wheat seeds, expressed as a percentage and determined by the number of normally germinated seeds on the 7th day of analysis.

In the reference 20 varieties crop Bread wheat, where this is mentioned in the description.

The determination of soft wheat germination capacity is carried out by germinating four samples of 100 seeds each in accordance with established regulations. On the 7th day, sprouts with normal development of rootlets and plumules are counted, while dead seeds or specimens with developmental abnormalities are classified as substandard.

Regulatory requirements for sowing material divide seeds into classes, where for original, elite, and reproductive seeds, the threshold value for germination capacity is at least 92%. A rate of 87% is considered the minimum acceptable for commercial purposes, and a decrease in germination capacity requires a mandatory adjustment of the seeding rate by weight to ensure the target plant population density.
