Plant height — German chamomile, wild chamomile

For German chamomile, the height of the main stem is measured from the soil surface to the level of the inflorescences during the peak flowering period before the first harvest. Typical values range from 15–20 to 60 cm, while cultivated varieties can reach 60–90 cm. Low-growing forms with a height of less than 20–25 cm occur both among breeding samples and as a result of unfavorable growing conditions.

This trait directly influences industrial cultivation technology, as stem uprightness and height determine the efficiency of harvesting equipment. Excessive growth caused by over-application of nitrogen fertilizers often leads to lodging, while breeding efforts are aimed at developing forms with elongated peduncles and less leafiness, which facilitates the separation of inflorescences and increases the purity of the raw material.
