This trait is directly linked to the crop's lodging resistance: as a rule, shorter or short-stemmed forms possess increased stem strength, allowing them to better withstand high doses of mineral fertilizers and intensive agrotechnical loads. Plant height also determines harvestability, directly affecting the position of the lower fruits or pods relative to the soil level.
