The variety is a local landrace originating from the municipality of Sant Joan. Seedlings are traditionally prepared from January to April, and planting in the open field is carried out in May.
The onion is characterized by a very sweet taste, making it popular in local cuisine for salads and baking. The variety possesses the ability to regrow, which allows it to be used for harvesting young green shoots or small bulbs when planted in the autumn.
