The type name comes from the word pogača, meaning a type of flatbread, which characterizes the bulb shape. In some cases, local landrace populations, such as Rapski žuti pogačar, may be identified under this name.
Bulbs of this type have golden-yellow dry scales and white flesh. They can reach a weight of up to 200 grams, have a flat-round shape, and a moderately pungent, sweetish taste. The onion is suitable for fresh consumption, culinary use, and is considered one of the best varieties for long-term storage.
