Montorese is a traditional landrace cultivated in the Montoro plain. The plant belongs to the winter type: sowing is carried out in late summer or early autumn, and harvesting occurs in early summer. The plant height reaches approximately 30 cm.
The bulbs have a slightly flattened globular shape. The outer scales are copper-colored, while the inner scales may have a purple hue. The onion has a sweet taste with an intense aroma and low to medium pungency. Due to their dense structure, the bulbs are suitable for long cooking and storage in ventilated areas until March.
