Bulbs of the Mitja Vermella variety are of medium size, with a rhomboid shape, a pointed top, and a rounded base. The outer dry scales are thin, dark cherry-purple in color with yellowish tints. The inner scales are white with reddish edges; the bulb is firm and not prone to splitting.
The plant has a pseudo-stem of medium length and erect leaves 40–60 cm long. Harvesting occurs from June to July. The variety is adapted to cultivation on dry lands and can be grown on clay soils with proper preparation.
