The variety is synonymous with the traditional Italian onion Seba Mitja Vermella, which translates to 'half red onion'. The plant is characterized by erect green leaves 40–60 cm long and a developed pseudostem of medium length.
The bulbs have a characteristic diamond shape with a pointed apex and a rounded base. Thin wine-red with yellowish dry scales fit tightly to the compact bulb with white flesh, which has reddish edges.
The variety is grown under dry farming conditions, including on clay soils. The harvest period falls between mid-June and the second half of July. Due to the risk of genetic erosion, the variety is included in regional biodiversity conservation programs.
