The Zittauer gelbe variety, also known as Zittauer Giant Yellow, is characterized as mid-late or late. The bulbs have a round, sometimes rhombic shape, are covered with golden-yellow scales, and are distinguished by a piquant, aromatic taste. The plant is erect, reaching a height of 30–40 cm.
The variety is a historical landrace, is not an F1 hybrid, and is suitable for propagation by seed. It possesses winter hardiness when sown in autumn and is suitable for cultivation by sowing seeds into the soil in March–April. The crop prefers sunny locations with loose, humus-rich soils.
