The leek variety «Ekkehard» is mentioned in official lists of approved agricultural plant varieties. In a number of sources, it appears as a synonym or identical to the variety «Merlin».
The variety was used in agronomic research and breeding work, in particular in the breeding of leeks for the central region of Russia, as one of the initial samples. Detailed morphological and economic characteristics of the variety are absent in open publications.
