The variety belongs to the purple garlic group (purple-type) and has a softneck form. According to UPOV guidelines, it is characterized by a medium length of the longest leaf.

The chemical composition of the variety is distinguished by a higher pH value and an increased content of sulfur-containing compounds, such as alliin and methiin, compared to white and Chinese types. Due to these properties, it is used both fresh and in the food industry.

In scientific literature, it is often mentioned as a model organism for genetic transformation experiments, including the introduction of marker genes.
