The Geliana variety was bred within the CIRAD breeding program using genotypes of the species Ananas bracteatus, Ananas nanus, and Ananas lucidus. The plant is not intended for the production of edible fruit.
The leaves of the variety are smooth, semi-erect, colored burgundy in the groove with green edges. The inflorescences are small, with bright pink bracts and purple petals, located on an erect peduncle.
A feature of the bush is its ability to form an average of three side shoots, which allows for up to three inflorescences to be obtained simultaneously.
