The Balangbeke variety, known under the commercial name AngelMist Basket Purple, is a decorative form of the species Angelonia angustifolia. The plant has an upright but well-branching bush structure, while differing in lower height and shorter raceme-like inflorescences compared to a number of other varieties.

The flowers of the variety have a characteristic white throat color and a weak degree of reflexing of the corolla lobes. The crop is valued for its heat and drought tolerance, as well as its ability for prolonged flowering. In regions with a cold climate, the plant is grown as an annual.
