The Pieno dorato variety belongs to the celery group. According to the official European Union vegetable variety catalogs, this name is a synonym for the Italian variety Dorato d’Asti, to whose group Bianco gigante di Castelnuovo and Dorato gigante a canna piena also belong.

The variety is grown to produce fleshy stalks. During cultivation, earthing up of the plants is required, which is necessary to form a tender texture and for the stalks to acquire a characteristic blanched color.
