The variety belongs to the red celery group and is considered a descendant of the sedano violetto di Tours variety. The appearance of the plant is characterized by the presence of a characteristic red coloration of the stalks, and the height of an adult plant varies from 45 to 90 cm.

This variety is a local ecotype for the cultivation of which specific techniques, such as trench cultivation, may be used in traditional practice. Molecular studies have been conducted on the variety to determine its genetic profile with the aim of preserving its uniqueness.
