The variety is the result of crossing the female line NJ 277C with the super-male line NJ 22-8. The predominantly male plant type allows energy to be directed toward spear formation instead of seeds. During the summer period after harvest, the plants develop robust fern-like foliage up to 1.5 meters in height.
The spears are large and uniform, dark green in color with a possible purple tint on the scales. The variety possesses high adaptability to various soil types, including heavy ones, and good cold hardiness, adapted for USDA zones 3–8. Plantations of this variety can function productively for 15–20 years.
