The variety Purple Passion is an F1 hybrid, the breeding of which is based on the improvement of Italian varieties to obtain intense color and sweet taste. The spears have a saturated dark purple color with a creamy-green core, although the color changes to green upon heat treatment.

The plant possesses vigorous growth and the ability to produce a yield a year earlier than most other varieties. The produce is distinguished by the absence of tough fibers and a high sugar content, which makes it suitable for fresh consumption.

The variety is characterized by disease resistance and is suitable for cultivation in USDA hardiness zone 4 conditions. It is intended for use in home gardens and farmers' markets.
