The variety Bacchus is part of the Begonia × hiemalis hybrid group, obtained through complex interspecific hybridization. Plants of this group are traditionally grown as indoor crops or for seasonal landscaping.
In specialized studies, the variety is examined in the context of disease resistance. It has been recorded that this begonia species is susceptible to the fungal pathogen Fusarium foetens, which causes stem and leaf rot.
