The variety is a selection from Bergenia Rotblum. The plant forms dense rosettes of large leathery oval leaves. The plant height is about 20 cm, including the flower stalks.
Flowering occurs in mid-spring with purple-crimson or deep pink flowers on short flower stalks. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness, endurance, and the ability to grow both in partial shade and in the sun, provided there is sufficient soil moisture.
The plant is used for edging the foreground of borders, growing in containers, or as a groundcover species.
