The variety was bred as a result of selection combining traits of chard and sugar beet. The main advantage of the plant is its high dry matter content, which makes it an effective component of animal diets, while the variety is distinguished by ease of extraction from the soil during harvest.
The plant was traditionally used for fattening pigs and as feed for horses and cattle. The variety is included in the official EU agricultural plant catalogues. Fertile, well-drained soils are required to obtain high results in cultivation.
