The Zulema variety is the result of domestication and breeding of wild populations of Brachypodium distachyon from the Andalusia region. The plant has an upright habit, reaches a height of 5–20 cm and has a characteristic dark green color.

The main purpose of the variety is to protect the soil from erosion, retain moisture and prevent soil leaching. The crop is characterized by high endurance, low maintenance requirements and a short or medium development cycle.

Zulema is recommended for use as a living ground cover in vineyards, as well as for reinforcing the slopes of highways, railways and solar power plant sites.
