The variety is a traditional population, not a hybrid. It is characterized by high lodging resistance due to a stiff stem that persists during the ripening period. The seeds of the variety meet "canola" quality standards, featuring a low glucosinolate content, which makes the meal suitable for use in animal feed.

Previously, the variety held a market-leading position, but it has currently been withdrawn from active commercial circulation and replaced by modern high-yielding hybrids. In agronomic literature, Apex is frequently used as a standard control object when evaluating the effectiveness of nitrogen nutrition and seed resistance to shattering.
