The variety is an heirloom landrace originating from the Diesdorf museum collection. Plants are characterized by heterogeneity of morphotypes, showing a variety of leaf shades from green to purple, and their height can reach 2 meters.

Altmärker Braunkohl is a late-maturing vegetable intended for harvest from October to spring. The variety is distinguished by high hardiness and the ability to produce a yield under conditions of limited irrigation and nutrition.

The leaves possess a characteristic flavor and are used in cooking to prepare traditional dishes, salads, and chips. Thanks to the ornamental appearance of the plants, the variety is also suitable for use in decorative plantings.
