The plant belongs to the Acephala group and does not form a head. Depending on the regional ecotype, the appearance may vary: there are forms with smooth or curly leaves of dark green color. The stem of the plant is tall and becomes woody with age.
This landrace is characterized by high cold hardiness and adaptability to the conditions of the northwest coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The crop is used as a food product in traditional national soups, as well as fodder for livestock.
