The Braschetta variety belongs to the Palm Kale group and is a traditional variety from the Livorno province (Italy), registered as a variety for the conservation of genetic diversity.

Jersey kale is not a variety in the narrow sense, but a group of common names for tree kale. The plants are characterized by a tall, rigid stem, reaching 1.8–2 meters in the first year and up to 3 meters or more under favorable conditions. Historically, the crop was used as fodder and as a material for making walking sticks from dried and varnished stems.

Plants of the Jersey kale group are considered hardy and adapted to maritime climates, but may suffer frost damage in severe winters. Due to the significant height of the stem, the plants often require mandatory staking.
