The variety is a local landrace historically grown in the vegetable gardens of the Cerdanya comarca. The plant belongs to the late-maturing (winter) types, with harvesting carried out from mid-December to the end of winter. There are two forms of the variety: with smooth and with curly leaves.
The cabbage possesses high resistance to extreme cold, and exposure to frost is necessary to achieve optimal flavor. In addition to the main part of the plant, side shoots that form on the stem in winter are also consumed.
The variety has a narrow culinary specialization, being a key ingredient for the preparation of the traditional dish trinxat. The crop is grown in limited volumes and is found predominantly in local markets.
