The variety originates from the Czech town of Křimice, where traditions of cabbage cultivation have historically developed. It is characterized by the formation of large heads and is traditionally used as raw material for making sauerkraut.
In scientific literature, the variety is often mentioned as an object of genetic research, in particular in experiments on microspore culture for obtaining doubled haploids and in the study of Brassica oleracea embryogenesis.
