The Nantais hâtif variety, also known as Nantais Colas, forms compact plants about 40 cm high and 60 cm wide. The plant is distinguished by dark green leaves, very dense heads, and a short core.
The variety is early and adapted to a temperate oceanic climate. It possesses relative winter hardiness, withstanding short-term temperature drops down to -7 °C, but requires protection from extreme cold. The heads are valued for the tenderness and density of the leaves and are suitable for fresh consumption.
