The variety belongs to the winter form of rapeseed and was widely cultivated in Sweden in the 1970s. During that period, it was classified as an oilseed crop and considered in the context of breeding varieties with low erucic acid content.
In modern studies, the variety is more often encountered as an object of biochemical and genetic research. When studying the glucosinolate-myrosinase system, the Rapido III variety stood out among other tested Brassica campestris samples for having the lowest myrosinase enzymatic activity in the seeds.
