The ecotype originates from the Esaro and Fullone valleys in Italy, with its cultivation history dating back to the 19th century. Within the group, there are morphological forms classified by fruit length, such as Zafarana Roggianese and Buttunazzo Roggianese. Typologically, the fruits belong to the "bull's horn" (corno di toro) group.
The plants are adapted to the local hot and dry climate. The fruits are characterized by a high fiber content and distinct flavor and aromatic properties. The unique structure of the flesh allows the peppers to dry naturally without the risk of mold.
