The Friariello group of varieties represents not a single registered variety, but a collection of cultural types historically grown in Italy. The plants are characterized by medium vigor and a bushy habit, reaching a height of about 90 cm and requiring support.

The fruits have an elongated-conical "horn" shape 10–12 cm in length. At technical maturity they are bright green, turning red upon full biological maturation. The flesh is distinguished by sweetness, a lack of bitterness, and thin skin, making the variety suitable for frying, pickling, and fresh consumption.

The varieties in the group are early or mid-season. They are adapted to regional conditions, however, in unfavorable environments, they are susceptible to fungal diseases such as Alternaria.
