The plant is compact, vigorous, with an upright growth habit and short internodes. The fruits have a rounded, flattened, and sometimes ribbed shape with a diameter of 3–5 cm. Upon ripening, the skin changes color from green to bright red.

The flesh is thick, juicy, and aromatic. The taste varies from sweet to moderately pungent with a heat level of 1,000–25,000 SHU on the Scoville scale. The variety is suitable for cultivation in open fields, greenhouses, and containers.

It is an heirloom South Italian variety, which is traditionally used for stuffing, preserving in oil or vinegar, as well as for grilling and fresh consumption.
