The Cheiro Recife variety (Capsicum chinense) is a traditional Brazilian pepper with a compact plant 50–150 cm in height. The fruits have a round or lantern shape, are about 2.5 cm in size, and change color from green to yellow or orange. The ripening period is 90–110 days; the pungency is moderate with a fruity and floral flavor.
In commercial breeding, the name Recife is also used for a sweet pepper hybrid (Capsicum annuum), which is characterized by a strong stem and thick-walled fruits. Detailed agronomic characteristics of this hybrid are absent in open publications.
