The plant reaches a height of 45 to 150 cm. The fruits are bullet-shaped, 4–8 cm long and 1.5–2 cm in diameter, with a smooth and shiny surface. At technical maturity they are dark green; upon ripening they turn red, or less frequently brown, orange, or yellow.
The variety is mid-season, with a vegetation period of 95 to 140 days. It is characterized by a high yield of up to 50–100 fruits per plant. Pungency varies from 5,000 to 25,000 Scoville Heat Units.
The crop is thermophilic, sensitive to temperatures below 15 °C, and requires cultivation in sunny areas. It originates from the mountainous regions of the Mexican states of Puebla and Hidalgo and is used in cooking for fresh consumption, drying, and the preparation of seasonings.
