The variety is an Italian mutation found in the Mascali area of Sicily and was sanitized by micro-grafting. The plant has medium vigor, forms an upright crown, and has practically no thorns on the branches. Young shoots and flowers are distinguished by a characteristic purple hue.
The elliptical fruits reach a weight of 120–130 g and ripen from mid-November to January. The peel has medium thickness and a lemon-yellow color; the pulp is very juicy, with high acid content and a complete absence of seeds. The variety is classified as susceptible to the fungal disease mal secco.
