The Ghirara variety (also known as Agghirara) originates from the Nebrodi region in Sicily and is a local Italian variety. It is used as an object for the conservation of genetic diversity and for breeding work.
The plant possesses high endurance in harsh environmental conditions. The fruit has an elongated shape. The variety belongs to the late-maturing group, and the onset of pollen shedding under the conditions of the Bio-Bio region in Chile occurs in mid-June.
