The Grada de Viseu variety is autochthonous to Portugal and is of great importance for the local nut industry, especially in the Viseu region. Historically, the name was sometimes used as a local synonym for the Barcelona variety, however, the variety is classified as an independent traditional variety.

The fruits of the variety are of medium size, characterized by a harder shell compared to other varieties and a relatively high kernel weight. Scientific publications have examined the physiological and biochemical characteristics of the fruits depending on the level of irrigation, while data on the morphology of the bush and its phytosanitary resistance are practically absent.
