Variety description

10 August 2026

The Turkish hazel is a deciduous tree reaching a height of 8–30 meters, with a regular broad-pyramidal or conical crown. The trunk is covered with gray-brown bark, which peels off in corky plates with age. The species is characterized by the absence of root suckers.

The fruits are small, enclosed in a thick glandular husk, and have a very hard shell up to 3 mm thick. Although the nuts are edible, they have insignificant commercial value. The tree is characterized by high drought tolerance, heat resistance, and the ability to adapt to urban conditions, living up to 200 years.

In nut growing, the species is used as a rootstock for cultivated hazelnut varieties, which allows hazelnuts to be grown in tree form without suckers and increases their resistance to unfavorable soil conditions.
